LADY SAW

LADY SAW

Marion Hall, known for years by her stage name Lady Saw, broke a glass ceiling in the Jamaican dancehall in the 1990s by becoming one of the biggest stars in a male-dominated genre. Building on the work of women like Sister Nancy, Lady Ann, Lady G, and Nadine Sutherland, she beat the men at their own game – carnal ‘slackness’ delivered with intensity and conviction. Her breakthrough came in 1996 with the title track to the Give Me The Reason album and the single “Sycamore Tree” from the follow-up album Passion, in 1997. She has recorded eight albums for VP Records in all and is one of Jamaican music’s all-time greats by any measure. She currently records gospel music and is known as Minister Marion Hall.
