During the first half of the 1970s, the Jamaican music industry underwent a series of major transformations, which by the middle of the decade had produced two new distinct and hugely influential reggae sub-genres: roots and dub, and among the leading proponents of both styles was Phil Pratt. The growing influence of the increasingly popular styles of roots and dub is clearly apparent his work from this time, as evidenced on this 2CD set, which collects the cream of Pratt’s output throughout this transformative year. Including numerous tracks new to CD, ‘Party Time’ provides the opportunity for fans of classic 70s reggae to enjoy some of the biggest Jamaican hits from the era alongside many overlooked rarities that finally receive a long overdue re-release.
